ABOUT

Get to Know Me
and My Philosophy

Hello, I am devoted to assisting students in achieving their greatest potential. My expertise in the Orton Gillingham approach has proven to be an exceptional resource in aiding children to overcome difficulties in reading and writing.

The Orton Gillingham approach is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling do not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia. This approach focuses on teaching while incorporating visual, auditory, and kinesthetic elements to engage different learning styles and reinforce learning.

My approach to individualized instruction follows the principles of the Orton Gillingham approach, starting with breaking down language into manageable components. I incorporate visual aids, manipulatives, movement activities, and hands-on materials to help students establish connections between letters and sounds and reinforce their understanding of the concepts while they learn.

The Orton Gillingham approach has proven highly effective in helping students develop strong literacy skills. As an instructor, I have witnessed students who were once struggling readers make significant progress and gain confidence in their abilities. Being a part of their journey and seeing them thrive academically is my inspiration.

I learned about the Orton Gillingham approach as a paraprofessional in the Longmeadow School District.  In 2012, I was offered the opportunity to be trained and become certified in the Orton Gillingham approach. The International Dyslexia Association and IMSLEC recognized this initial certification.

After relocating to North Carolina in 2018, I met a fellow of the Orton Gillingham Academy.  This positive interaction inspired me to learn more about becoming a member of this organization.  We shared the same passion for helping students with dyslexia.  It became clear that being a part of the academy would give me access to a group of like-minded professionals who want to make a difference in the lives of students with dyslexia. I wanted to be a part of a community that truly cared about helping others. The Orton Gillingham Academy would help me achieve this goal and be the perfect fit.

In 2022, I completed the coursework and practicum for the academy and became an Associate member. I am currently in training to become a Certified member. I have been tutoring students in grades K-12 for over ten years.

With over ten years of experience in tutoring, I am deeply motivated to guide children toward their full potential and academic success. If you want to learn more about the Orton Gillingham approach or book a session, please do not hesitate to contact me for an initial consultation!

MY APPROACH

Energetic, Patient, Thorough

I have been using the Orton-Gillingham approach of teaching in schools and private tutoring for 8 years. Not many people can say they did the Orton-Gillingham training twice, but that's me. Why, you ask? I was first certified in 2012. As we all know as educators, our understanding of how we learn is constantly evolving. I strongly believe that regularly participating in continuing education programs will enhance my ability to teach children.

I have a lot of energy and embrace as my personal mission to provide every child I work with the tools to be a successful learner. I am thorough in my methods and engagement with each student is tailored to his or her individual needs.
